about_ics

Thank you for your interest in our stallions. International Competition Stallions was formed to give breeders the opportunity of using the best competition stallions available.

International Competition Stallions was formed in 1993 and is now the leading supplier of frozen semen in Great Britain and Ireland.

For the first time this year we are offering the semen from the highly respected State studs in Germany namely The Hanoverian, Holstein, and Westphalian studs.

In addition we have available the stallions from the world renowned Zangersheide Stud in Belgium.

We offer a service of more than simply the sale of semen. We are committed to producing foals with the application of modern techniques of reproduction. In the last five years we have achieved a pregnancy rate of 79% 82% 76% & 78% 75% using frozen semen. These figures are the result of approaching the subject in a professional manner. It takes a team effort to achieve this success which involves ourselves working very closely with the veterinary surgeon doing the insemination, and you the mare owner, who can do so much to prepare your mare to maximise her chance of success.

Over the past years we have built up a network of insemination centres throughout the world and indeed have over forty in Great Britain and Ireland alone who specialise in inseminations using frozen semen.

We handle all the Import documentation and transport relating to the semen and will ensure that the appropriate health certificates will accompany the semen.

In addition we will provide a covering certificate to allow you to register your foal with the breed society of your choice providing that the breed society recognise your mare and the stallion of your choice.

The technical quality of the semen is of the highest standard indeed we have rejected top stallions whose semen did not meet our strict requirements. Our extensive research has been with the aim of providing you with the finest competition stallions available and reducing the risks in breeding a foal.

I hope this gives you an idea of the services, which we can provide, and the stallions that we have available. They are well proven stallions that have already produced champion performance horses in Grand Prix Dressage, Grand Prix Showjumping, and Three-Day Eventing. They have competed themselves at the very highest level. These stallions are bred to perform and they themselves will breed performance horses. Their record speaks for themselves.

If you have any questions or you require to discuss anything in more detail please E-mail me and I will be delighted to help in any way I can.

FROZEN SEMEN

In Great Britain and Ireland the technique of artificial insemination is rapidly becoming the principal method for breeding performance horses. Indeed this is the normal method of sport horse breeding throughout Europe and North America. International Competition Stallions was the first company in Great Britain to follow these developments and make available these top competition stallions with a money back guarantee. Since 1993 we have steadily increased the number of mares bred each year and are acknowledged as the marker leader in this business.

Over the last six years we will have inseminated more mares with frozen semen than any other company and have built up a wealth of experience with equine semen.

Insemination with frozen semen is not a complicated procedure. What is required is attention to detail. With frozen semen when the mare is close to ovulation she will be examined up to four times daily as insemination will be performed within six hours after ovulation.

Frozen semen has an indefinite storage life, so the stallion’s semen will be stored in liquid nitrogen at the insemination centre, and will be thawed in a water bath immediately prior to the insemination. From our results over the last four years we would except to achieve a 75% conception rate although this will vary with each individual stallion.

The results from the British and Irish Veterinarians at our insemination centres compare very favourably with the figure quoted from the European Centres and in many instances are better.

We are constantly in touch with the leading figures at the forefront of this developing industry and will endeavour to improve on the service we offer to our clients.
