Matador won the silver medal at the World Championships in Stockholm 1990 and the Freestyle World Cup in 1991. His new owner, the Japanese Yoshinaga Sakurai, rode him in the individual competition at the Barcelona Olympics. He probably is the dressage stallion with the highest number of wins of all time.

In Demark, his sire May Sherif, enjoys the reputation of an outstanding sire of performance, who throws dressage horses as well as show jumpers. The many international Grand Prix wins under his permanent rider Kyra Kirkland include; the Hamburg Dressage Derby, 5th place in the Seoul Olympics 1988.
