No Official Change in Medal Standings of 2004 Olympic Show Jumping
Team Competition Yet Made by FEI
Contrary to media reports, no change in the disposition of the medals in
the 2004 Olympic Team Show Jumping Competition has yet been made by the
Federation Equestre International (FEI) the international governing body
of equestrian sport or by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The USEF has not been notified of any change in the medals.
The German rider on the gold medal winning team whom the FEI Judicial
Committee has disqualified from the competition still has the right to
appeal that decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within
30 days. The period of appeal started when the rider received the
decision by the Judicial Committee on 7 January 2005.
Once the period of appeal has expired and if the rider has not appealed,
the FEI will officially notify the IOC that the results of the Jumping
competitions of the 2004 Olympic Games shall be changed. The
redistribution of medals will be organized by the IOC and the respective
National Olympic Committees (NOCs).
If the ruling of the FEI Judicial Committee stands the United States is
poised to be awarded the gold medal instead of silver but the official
process is not yet complete. |
