The organisers of Royal Windsor Horse Show have announced that their plans for a new, half million pound, all weather permanent arena will be a reality in time for the 2005 show (12th-15th May). The news marks yet another major step forward in the development of the show with 2005 seeing a move into the Private Grounds of Windsor Castle. The show will become the only public show to be held in this area of the grounds. In previous years the show has been held in the Home Park Public and the move, literally across the road, means that the show will have a dedicated site. Shortly before Christmas the show was granted planning permission for the 120m x 60m main ring to be known as the Castle Arena, as well as a 50m x 25m collecting ring for that arena. Additionally the show will be a laying an all weather 400m horsewalk and service road. The show has appointed Martin Collins to carry out the construction. Simon Brooks-Ward, Director of Royal Windsor, said: “For years Royal Windsor has had a stunning backdrop but a main ring that was at the mercy of the weather. We now not only have the picturesque setting but we also, arguably, have the best going for an outdoor equestrian event in the country. This is only one of the many things we are implementing this year to make this a truly unique show.” The idyllic surroundings of Home Park Private, which have in the past been used by the show for Carriage Driving and Dressage, will now play host to three rings over the four days of the show, 12th to 15th May 2005. The rings will be called Frogmore, Copper Horse and Castle (Main Arena). The Main arena will enjoy grandstand seating for the public as well as superb facilities for both public and private hospitality and Members. Encompassing all the arenas and running like a ribbon through the show will be over 150 shops to suit all ages and tastes. There will be six performances at the show with evening performances planned for Saturday and Sunday. The final evening performance culminates in one of the most breathtaking displays of fireworks to music seen in the year.
