It was a wonderful weekend for Magherafelt's John Higgins as he won three top prizes at Cavan's International Indoor Horse Show.

The Co Londonderry rider started off well by taking the Four-Year-Old Qualifier on his father's Keeford Topcat and then went on the beat Steven Smith and Micky Mint in the Francis Derwin Bloodstock Agent-sponsored final.

On Sunday it was John and Flaming Star in the spotlight again, when he took the 1.20m Final by beating Harry Marshall's Kan Kan, ridden by Edward Doyle and the icing on the cake was provided by taking the title of Bewley's Hotel sponsored Leading National Rider.

Another northern rider in top form was Coleraine's Trevor Bartlett, who took the Opening Speed Class with Best Western and was placed in the Cavan Council Classic with Euro Double Act.
