Catherston produces another Hit 11-22-2005 5:04 pm
Catherston Stud's latest stallion proved a winner at the British Warm-Blood Society (BWBS) grading at Hartpury College. The three-year-old Deanes San Ciro Hit was the "overall champion" in the view of German judges Dr's Haring and Senkenberg, who described him as "an outstanding type with lots of male expression, the horse we were looking for". This striking son of the popular German sire Sandro Hit was bred in Devon. He was spotted by Catherston proprietor Jennie Loriston-Clarke on a visit to Langaller Farm Stud last August, where he was at livery and also for sale.
"I saw him trot and instantly said I'd have him," said Jennie, who was amazed to find out that he was out of Deanes Kings Courage, a mare by her horse of a lifetime, Dutch Courage.
"I had no idea. His dam's brother, Kings Fleet, was sold to Germany for dressage through the High Performance sale and his grand dam Lily Langtry, by the Thoroughbred Saunter, won the Lloyds BankChampionship."
Because his dam is not registered with the BWBS, San Ciro Hit is eligible only for the Sport Horse Register. However, Jennie has leased Kings Courage to breed from and hopes to grade her with the society, which will entitle San Ciro Hit to full graded status.
San Ciro Hit will be produced in some young horse classes next year before standing at stud.
