| Former Consultant Director of Breeding Graham Suggett was elected Director of Equine Development by the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Council recently. During his four years in post as Consultant Director of Breeding, Graham devised and implemented the BEF’s Young Horse Evaluations scheme to identify and nurture potential talent in four year old horses, and the groundbreaking Breeders’ Quality Mark to recognise high standards of record keeping in breeding establishments. Graham has been a driving force in the establishment of the National Equine Database as well as acting as the champion for breeding in the development of the BHIC/Defra ‘Strategy for the Horse’. In his new volunteer post as Director of Equine Development, Graham will take responsibility within the BEF for all matters relating to the development of equine policy and support. Looking after Long Term Equine Development, training and development of young horses, welfare, equine sports science and equine medication and doping control Graham will work with Jan Rogers, the executive within Equine Development and Breeding to ensure that the objectives of the BEF Operational Plan are carried out. Graham continues to be closely involved with the development and launch of the National Equine Database (NED). Hugh Thomas, BEF’s Chairman commented: “Graham has moved seamlessly from his role as a consultant to that of Board Director; we are very lucky to have his talents available to the BEF Board as his contribution is immense.” |
