Nicolas Touzaint brilliant in Lion d’Angers 12-07-2005 2:42 pm
At the World Championships for young eventing horses, Nicolas Touzaint came out tops. At the event, which was held from 20 until 23 October in Lion d’Anger, he won the gold with Tatchou (AA) among the seven-year-olds and the silver with Lesbos (SF) among the six-year-olds. After an exciting competition, the first place for six-year-olds finally went to the Westphalian registered Libero (Lauries Crusador x Pit I) with German Janet Wiesner.
Nicolas Touzaint- who was also last year’s champion with Joker d’ Helby- had a brilliant start at the World Championships: with both Tatchou (Faristan x El Aid) and with Lesbos (Yarlands Summer x Mazarin) he won the dressage test very, very convincingly. Among the seven-year-olds, it was only Kristina Cook with Miners Frolic (Miners Lamp x Oats) and Frank Ostholt with Little Paint (Nitron x I’am a Star) who provided any kind of competition. There was not much difference in the cross; a total of 17 combinations made the finishing line without faults. The concluding show jumping round on the Sunday also led to no changes among the top in the class. Touzaint won the gold ahead of Cook and Ostholt.
Among the six-year-olds, it was exciting up until the very last combination. Touzaint saw his enormous advantage gradually diminish in the cross: with 1.20 penalty points he lost ground to the AES registered King (Duc des Guillon x Hibritt) of Karin Donckers and Libero with Janet Wiesner. In the jumping he then took an upright from too far in front, dropping a bar that resulted in four penalty points. Wiesner had no faults with both the cross and the jumping and took first place ahead of Touzaint and third place went to Angela Tucker with Irish Jester (Slyguff Joker).
