Refresher Course For BHS Instructors 12-14-2005 2:21 pm

The 2006 Spillers Open Eventing Forum is approved as a Refresher Course for BHS Instructors The BHS has confirmed that the Spillers Open Eventing Forum (SOEF) is officially approved as refresher course for BHS Instructors.

The SOEF will be held on Monday, February 20, 2006, starting at 10am, at Addington Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire, and will focus on the influence of course design on training the event horse and rider, at every level.

All BHS registered instructors are obliged to attend a refresher day every two years, to stay on the instructors register.

Already recognised as the official training day for British Eventing (BE) Accredited Trainers, the SOEF is a vital educational day for those who wish to share ideas, and advance their knowledge, right across the discipline of eventing.

Throughout the day, a programme of structured demonstrations, discussions and workshops, led by world experts in eventing, will examine the interaction of the main phases of eventing, in relation to course design, to help enhance riding, training and judging skills.

In the show jumping section Richard Jeffery will explain the thought process behind designing a show jumping course. Peter Murphy will then demonstrate show jumping training, using this course. Ferdi Eilberg will show how to relate dressage training to both jumping phases. Mike Etherington-Smith will provide an insight into cross-country course designing and Yogi Breisner will finish the day by demonstrating training methods for various cross country obstacles.

During the extended lunch break a selection of Spillers "Workshops" will provide the opportunity to ask questions about the important roles of nutrition, farriery and veterinary care, in maintaining and fine tuning the competition horse. Ruth Bishop, R Nutr, Technical Director at Spillers will discuss nutrition; Haydn Price, Dip WCF will talk about farriery, Equinalysis and the importance of foot balance, and Jenny Hall, MRCVS will cover veterinary monitoring of the event horse.

Tickets, priced at £45, are available in advance. Application forms are on the website www. openeventingforum. com or by contacting Emma Hunter on 01767 651664 between 9am and 5pm. Emma will also take credit card bookings.
