Irish Showjumpers Flying High in Athens 10-01-2006 10:25 am

WEXFORD'S Dave Quigley took second place in today's (Saturday) 1m35

class at Athens, Greece, while yesterday he and three other Irish

riders accounted for no less than six of the top ten places in the

Grand Prix Qualifier.

Quigley today rode into second place behind Greek winner

Yiotis Perintzalis, and yesterday slotted the same horse into ninth

place in the first of the Grand Prix Qualifiers at the two star Greek

show.

First place in yesterday's competition went to ridden by Co.

Down-born Conor Swail, who also took sixth place with .

Mayo's Cameron Hanley was second in the Qualifier with

Concept>, and fourth with . Third place went to the

Irish Army Equitation School's Capt. Shane Carey and .

The Athens Grand Prix takes place on Sunday.

The four riders will also be present at the Nations' Cup event at

Athens next weekend, when Swail, Hanley and Carey will join Comdt.

Gerry Flynn on the Irish team, with Dave Quigley competing as an

individual.
