Joining a tour organized by ABPSL (the Brazilian Association of Lusitano Breeders) will truly allow you to indulge your passion for horses: a wonderful opportunity to ride and interact with Lusitano horses and their breeders every day, learn to drive a carriage, receive lessons in dressage, Working Equitation and other Brazilian equestrian activities, and also enjoy unrivalled hospitality. From the moment you are met at Sao Paulo airport and returned for your flight home, ABPSL will generously provide all internal transportation free of charge, with activities and many meals courtesy of the various stud farms and breeders. (Expect to gain a few pounds!!!)
The next tour begins in Sao Paulo on May 8 to 18, and will include the annual Lusitano auction at Coudelaria Ilha Verde, as well as the International Lusitano Festival.
The XXVII International Lusitano Festival in May 2008 invites the whole world to attend this exhilarating spectacle
From May 14–18, 2008, the beautiful Clube Hípico de Santo Amaro in Sao Paulo will be transformed to host the XXVII International Lusitano Festival. This popular annual event attracts a large crowd of spectators who are truly passionate about this remarkable breed, as well as those who are keen to learn more about Brazilian-bred Lusitanos.
For the breeders and owners the Festival provides the showcase for their products, from yearlings awarded by gender, through the various age-group championships, to stallions anticipating approval for the forthcoming breeding season. Alongside the wealth of daily in-hand presentations, the dressage arena hosts a full slate of classes for all levels and abilities. Naturally, Lusitanos are no strangers to dressage at the highest level, proven by the Brazilian team’s bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games.
However, one of the most exhilarating components of this absorbing Festival, is provided by the Working Equitation classes, when horses and riders set the arena alight with their impressive displays of speed and dexterity while negotiating a series of designated obstacles. This exciting discipline has witnessed exponential growth in the past few years, especially throughout Latin America and Europe, and small groups are now starting to gather interest in North America. This sport has the distinction of crossing the frontier between English and Western styles of riding, and a wealth of opportunities for horses and riders of all levels to participate. Now with its own World Championship, the Lusitano qualities and disposition have already demonstrated their suitability for Working Equitation – especially those bred in Brazil!
With championship titles, trophies and ribbons at stake for every category, the International Lusitano Festival is certainly a nail-biting time for breeders, owners, and riders alike – and a riveting spectacle that ABPSL would like to share with you.
