Courtney King to campaign Spanish stallion Grandioso

Courtney King will take over the reins of the PRE dressage stallion Grandioso III for competition in the US.
Grandioso III (Adelante x Grandiosa) is a 16-hand, nine-year-old, bay PRE ((Pura Raza Espanola) stallion imported from Spain by Hampton Green Farm in 2003. Grandioso has been competed by Pati Pierucci through to Prix St. Georges. Robert Dover is Pierucci's coach.

Blood Test in Young Foals Might Predict Osteochondrosis

Measurement of osteocalcin (a marker of joint metabolism) in 2-week-old foals might be useful for identifying foals at risk for developing osteochondrosis. Osteochondrosis (OC) is a developmental orthopedic disease that results from a disruption in the growth of articular cartilage located in specific joints, most frequently the tarsocrural joint in the hock. Ireland tightens up controls on horse passport laws

The Irish government has boosted the number of horse passport inspectors and given them new powers to spot-check dealers and auction rings in an effort to increase compliance. Michael Walsh, spokesman for the Department for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (DAF), denied that the move was a reaction to recent disease issues in the country or to a low level take-up of passports since the legislation was introduced in 2005.
