Tabasco Cat, winner of the 1994 Preakness (G1) and Belmont (G1) Stakes, died in Japan on March 6 at age 13, a spokesman from the Japan Racing Association’s London office confirmed Monday morning. The son of Storm Cat died of heart failure while covering a mare, said Takashi Ogawa, administrative manager of the office. Tabasco Cat entered stud at W. T. Young’s Overbrook Farm near Lexington in 1996 and stood there five seasons before being exported to the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders’ Association’s Shizunai Stallion Station on the island of Hokkaido.
